Robbery suspect in critical condition after fireworks stand shooting

A suspect is in critical condition after a fireworks stand employee took the man’s revolver and shot him during an attempted robbery Thursday afternoon.

According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, a man who has not been identified approached the fireworks stand on the 14400 block of the North Freeway before 4 p.m. and demanded money from the employees at gun point.

“At that time, as the victims were cooperating and producing the money, we believe he set the gun on the counter,” said Harris County Sheriff deputy Eddie Hazel, and a worker grabbed the gun and fired it once, striking the would-be robber. The employee then called an ambulance.

The wounded suspect was transported to Houston Northwest Hospital in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
