I-35W lanes closed in South Fort Worth after person reported walking against traffic

The lanes of Interstate 35W near the Interstate 20 interchange in South Fort Worth were closed Wednesday evening after a person was reported to be walking against traffic.

The Texas Department of Transportation said on Twitter that all lanes of I-35W at Altamesa Boulevard were closed and that drivers should seek an alternate route.

Police said they were called about 5:15 p.m. about a man having a mental-health crisis. That man was taken in to custody and taken to a hospital for evaluation about 9:30 p.m., and the interstate’s traffic lanes were reopened.

Fort Worth police said they later learned that the man, whose name was not released, was a suspect in an assault case in Arlington. Details about that case were not immediately available.
