Officers track down murder suspect in NW Harris Co., open fire at him: HPD

In an incident outside Houston city limits, a Houston Police Department sergeant discharged their firearm at a murder suspect armed with a handgun fitted with an extended magazine, authorities reported on Monday.

The confrontation occurred during a warrant service at 8340 Antonie Drive in the Inwood North area. Neither the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Periche Roshal Barley, nor the officer sustained injuries during the incident.

Barley is the prime suspect in a shooting on Feb. 21 that resulted in one fatality and injuries to four others in the Greater Greenspoint area, specifically the 13600 block of Ella Boulevard.

Law enforcement received intelligence leading them to the rear of an apartment complex on Monday, where officers spotted Barley in possession of a handgun. Despite commands to drop the weapon, the suspect did not comply, prompting the officer to discharge their service weapon twice, striking a fence.

Following the discharge, Barley complied with commands and was subsequently taken into custody. Homicide investigators from the Houston Police Department and the jurisdiction-holding Harris County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to conduct an investigation.

HPD shared an image on social media depicting the handgun recovered from the suspect, highlighting the presence of an extended magazine. They expressed gratitude that none of the officers involved were harmed in the encounter.
