Man surrenders, posts bail on charges of endangering a child, promotion of prostitution

A man wanted on state jail felony charges of endangering a child and promotion of prostitution recently surrendered to authorities in Harris County after being sought for several weeks.

Colby Bankhead, 24, was originally charged after Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office investigators arrested him during an undercover prostitution sting on May 3, 2019, in the 9100 block of Gulf Freeway. When he was arrested, Bankhead allegedly left two children — 9 months and 24 months old — alone in a vehicle. It is alleged he was acting as a pimp for the children’s mother.

“Investigators believe Bankhead was acting as a pimp for a woman he brought to that location,” Constable Alan Rosen’s office reported at the time. “He ran from deputies that evening but was captured and charged at the time only with evading arrest. He was released from jail on bond.”

At the time, he was arrested on two lesser misdemeanor charges. His felony charges were field on May 17. His is currently free after posting bonds totaling more than $4,000, including $2,000 for his current felony charges. The state has requested no bond and that he remain in jail.

State jail felonies in Texas are punishable by 180 days to two years in state jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

As part of his bond conditions, he cannot access the internet, live within 1,000 feet of a daycare or school, consume alcohol or drugs, be subject to random drug testing and have no contact with his alleged victim.

Bankhead had previously posted bonds of more than $2,000 on misdemeanor charges of evading arrest and possession of marijuana, according to Harris County District Clerk records. His home address is located in the Greater Fifth Ward of Houston.

He also was previously convicted of assault on a family member, where he was sentenced to 20 days in county jail.

His next court date is set for July 24.

If anyone has more information on this case they are urged to contact Precinct 1 dispatch at (713) 755-7618.
