Dallas police officer hospitalized after squad car struck on Central Expressway

A Dallas police officer was hospitalized after a crash Thursday afternoon on Central Expressway, police said.

Officers were assisting a stranded driver when another driver “took faulty evasive action,” hitting one of the marked squad cars, police said. An officer was inside the car when it was hit.

Police said the crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. near the Lovers Lane exit, on the southbound highway between University Park and northeast Dallas.

The department’s traffic unit was at the scene investigating the crash, police said.

Texas Department of Transportation cameras and video from the scene show police vehicles were blocking several lanes of traffic.

Authorities did not provide any information about the officer’s condition.

No further details were immediately available.
