The forecast isn’t expected to cause any problems for the southernmost NHL Winter Classic ever.
When the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators take the ice Wednesday at the Cotton Bowl, temperatures are expected to be in the low 50s, with no chance for rain, KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Grant Johnston said.
In its history, the hockey game has been played in temperatures as low as zero degrees and as high as the mid-60s.
“I’d be a little worried in the 60s, but we could probably manage,” Steve Mayer, the NHL’s chief content officer and executive vice president of events and entertainment, said earlier this month. “I’d be really worried if we hit the 70s, but based on our calculations, that shouldn’t be an issue.”
The Stars were scheduled to practice at 2 p.m. Tuesday, but their practice was pushed back two hours to reduce the amount of sunlight and glare for the players. The Predators’ practice Tuesday was also pushed back to 6 p.m.
