16-year-old killed, man wounded in drug-related shooting in DeSoto, police say

A 16-year-old died and a man was wounded in a drug-related shooting Saturday in DeSoto, police said.

Police received multiple calls about 7 p.m. Saturday after a car crashed into an unoccupied SUV in an apartment parking lot in the 500 block of East Belt Line Road.

Inside the car, two people had been wounded — a 16-year-old Duncanville High student and a man who had been driving, police said.

Both were taken to a hospital, where the 16-year-old, who is from Fort Worth, died. He had a head wound, police said. The driver was wounded in the torso and was in stable condition Sunday after emergency surgery, police said.

The victims’ names were not released, and DeSoto police were working Sunday to identify people involved in the shooting.

Police said they think the shooting was an isolated incident and that there’s no ongoing threat to the public. Drug paraphernalia and shell casings from a handgun were found at the scene, police said.
