2 teens arrested after gunshots fired near Poteet High School, Mesquite police say

Mesquite police arrested two 17-year-old men in connection with reports of gunshots fired Tuesday night at Poteet High School, police said Friday.

The gunshots were reported around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 3300 block of Poteet Drive while fans were leaving a basketball game between Poteet and Lancaster High School, police said. Officers who were there determined that a fight broke out after the game, but no injuries or property damage was reported.

Owen Crutcher of Rockwall and Kross Murphy of Heath each face a charge of discharging of a firearm in certain municipalities. Crutcher also faces a charge of places weapons prohibited.

Kross also faces a charge of evading arrest on foot. He is listed in Mesquite jail records with a $1,000 bail on the weapons charge. Bail on the other charge had not been set.

Crutcher isn’t listed on Mesquite jail rosters or in Dallas County Jail.

Neither attends a Mesquite school district campus, police said.
