Grand Prairie opens COVID-19 vaccination hub, administers entire 500 dose allocation on first day

The new vaccination hub in Grand Prairie is up and running, with officials already calling for more vaccines to be sent after the site went through its entire 500 dose allocation on the first day.

The new site, operated in a partnership with Irving, opened Wednesday morning at The Theatre at Grand Prairie, 1001 Performance Place. The hub received an initial 500 vaccine allotment and has already distributed that delivery.

When Grand Prairie receives it’s next vaccine allotment, the hub will be open Monday through Friday serving people who have registered ahead of time. To help people without access to the internet register, the city is holding a special walk-up, in-person registration this Friday.

In a letter to state health officials Wednesday, Irving Rep. Terry Meza asked the state to recognize the Grand Prairie site as an approved vaccination hub and start sending weekly allotments of 5,000 vaccines.

With the 500 vaccine allotment already administered, Meza said the hub is showing signs of being one of the most efficient distribution locations in the state.

Meza also called for more vaccines at Baylor Scott and White Hospital of Irving for health care workers and first responders. Many hospital workers and first responders refused the vaccine at first when it was allotted to the hospital, and now Meza is asking for 100 additional doses to cover deficit.
