Police find vehicle suspected in 3 attempted kidnappings in Denton County; driver arrested on unrelated charge

A man has been arrested driving a vehicle that was linked to several attempted kidnappings over the weekend in Denton County, authorities say.

Denton police stopped the SUV late Sunday afternoon. The driver, whose identity was not released by police, was arrested on an unrelated charge of driving while intoxicated and is being held at the Denton County Jail, police said.

In the latest kidnapping attempt, Corinth police said a man tried to lure a woman into his vehicle shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Lake Sharon Drive between FM2499 and Oakmont Drive.

The suspect was wearing a hoodie, sunglasses and a medical mask, police said. He did not display a weapon.

Police shared a photo of the suspect’s vehicle and asked that anyone who had seen it to call 911.

Police said they are investigating whether the man involved in Sunday’s abduction attempt may be connected to at least two similar cases Saturday.

One woman was walking her dog about 11:45 a.m. in the 2000 block of Del Mar Court when a man drove up next to her, held up a gun and ordered her to get inside his SUV, police said.

She got into the vehicle but escaped after a short distance and the man drove away, police said. She was not hurt.

Police said the man was driving a silver or light blue older SUV with a dark interior.

Another woman had reported a similar incident to Corinth police about 15 minutes before, authorities said.

The woman was jogging near Oakmont and Park Palisades drives at 11:30 a.m. Saturday when a man stopped in the middle of the road, waved a handgun and told her to get into his vehicle, police said. The woman ran away and asked for help from a person who lived nearby.

Police said the driver left the area and headed north on Oakmont Drive. Corinth police said they believe the same man used the same vehicle in all three incidents.

Anyone who sees the vehicle matching the description may call 911. People who recognize the vehicle or who have information may call Denton police at 940-349-7812.

The kidnapping attempts over the weekend follow another one that happened at 6 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Burl Street in Corinth.

A man wearing a ski mask, black hoodie and black jeans approached a woman on her front porch and told her to come with him, police said.

The woman was able to get away, run into her house and call police.

The man fled on foot, police said, and a drone was called to search for the suspect. Police did not say whether they suspected that Thursday’s kidnapping attempt was related to the other three.
