Dallas County reports 10 more COVID-19 deaths, 275 new coronavirus cases

Dallas County reported 10 more COVID-19 deaths and 275 new coronavirus cases Saturday.

The latest victims were mostly in their 60s or older. They included two men and eight women, and all had underlying health conditions. Four of the victims lived in Garland, two in Richardson, and one each in Dallas, Carrollton, Cedar Hill and Rowlett.

County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that the county is seeing declines in its seven-day average of daily new confirmed and probable cases, as well as its daily average of new confirmed and probable deaths by week.

“One of the best ways to help our community and the people that you love is to get vaccinated and encourage those who you have influence over to get vaccinated so that we can get COVID-19 behind us,” Jenkins said.

Of the new cases, 221 were confirmed and 54 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 293,934 — 253,889 confirmed and 40,045 probable. The death toll is 3,697.

According to the state, at least 788,161 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while at least 457,079 — 22.5% of he county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Texas

Across the state, 3,198 more cases were reported Saturday, including 2,661 new cases and 537 older ones recently reported by labs.

The state also reported 76 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 48,185.

Of the new cases, 1,902 were confirmed and 759 were probable. Of the older cases, 393 were confirmed and 144 were probable.

The state’s case total is now 2,816,097 — 2,420,581 confirmed and 395,516 probable.

There were 2,804 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 538 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Saturday, 4.07% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 5.09% as of Friday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 2.8%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes also called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.

According to the state, at least 9,034,618 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while at least 5,465,116 — 23.46% of the state’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 203 new cases of the coronavirus and four deaths on Saturday.

Information on the latest victims was not available.

Of the new cases, 130 were confirmed and 73 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 252,872 — 213,128 confirmed and 39,744 probable. The death toll is 3,351.

According to the county, 152 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 522,910 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 364,403 — 22.5% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state added one death and 148 cases to Collin County’s totals Saturday.

No details about the latest victim were available.

Of the new cases, 89 were confirmed and 59 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 87,634 — 72,589 confirmed and 15,045 probable. The death toll is 805.

According to the county, 92 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 357,196 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 216,107 — 22.54% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County no longer releases new coronavirus data over the weekend.

As of Friday, the county had reported 72,583 coronavirus cases, including 53,763 confirmed and 18,820 probable. The death toll is 476.

According to the county, 38 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 246,594 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 171,078 — 24.5% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day. The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 11,211 cases (9,135 confirmed and 2,076 probable), 151 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 15,591 cases (13,115 confirmed and 2,476 probable), 247 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 22,252 cases (18,649 confirmed and 3,603 probable), 309 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 19,429 cases (16,597 confirmed and 2,832 probable), 361 deaths.
