A stronger front arrives Friday bringing more rain and storms

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — If you missed out on the rain Thursday, there’s another opportunity Friday.

Temperatures will start off in the mid 60s under a cloudy sky. Warm, humid, and unstable air from the Gulf will return by the afternoon, bringing a chance for widely scattered downpours. The rain chance will continue until a front arrives Friday evening. A few showers could linger behind the front Saturday, but overall it will be a dry weekend for most.

Could there be any severe storms or flash flooding?
There is a chance some of the storms Friday could produce severe hail and winds, but it’s only a small chance. We don’t anticipate any bayou or creek flooding, but pockets of street flooding could pop up underneath the heaviest storms, especially if they move slowly.

How much rain could we get this week?
By the end of the week, 1-2″ of rain could be fairly common around Houston and north of I-10. Less than 1″ is most likely in our coastal counties and communities.

How cool will it get behind Friday night’s front?
This front will usher in several days with lows in the 50s and highs in the low-to-mid 70s.

What can we expect for the weekend ahead?
A few showers could linger into Saturday behind Friday night’s cold front. Temperatures will start in the 50s and climb into the upper 60s. Sunday should bring more sunshine breaking through the clouds and drier air. Temperatures will start in the low 50s and warm into the low 70s.
