Flash Flood Watch southwest of Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect southwest of Houston for the counties that touch Matagorda Bay

Multiple rounds of widespread rain are possible through Thursday night, but the highest accumulations should focus near Matagorda Bay.

We’ll have a chance for some storms to redevelop through the evening, but most of the rain that we’ll see today has already fallen. Thankfully the cloud cover and showers will keep temperatures in check with highs topping out in the mid 80s, well below our normal high of 94 degrees.
We’ll see a similar pattern tomorrow with widespread rain and a soggy morning commute for many.

How long will this wet weather pattern stick around?
Rain chances are at 80% on Tuesday and Wednesday with deep tropical moisture overhead. After another very wet day on Thursday, rain chances will begin to fall late in the work week.

How much rain should I expect?
We expect 1-3″ of rain to be fairly common around Houston through Thursday. Southwest of Houston near Matagorda Bay those rainfall totals climb into the 5-8″ range.

Will it rain again this weekend?
There is still a chance for afternoon downpours Saturday and Sunday, but these will be more scattered in nature. At this time we are predicting a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday and 30% on Sunday with high temperatures near 90.
