Man found inside Applebee’s in handcuffs after assaulting officers, stealing patrol car, police say

A 26-year-old man was arrested at an Applebee’s early Saturday on charges that he assaulted officers and stole a patrol car that he later crashed, Forney police said.

Emanuel Paramo, of Bridgeport, was booked into the Forney City Jail. His bond information was not released, and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Police said a Forney officer had seen a car in a ditch about 1 a.m. in the 700 block of U.S. Highway 80 service road and went to check on the welfare of the driver. The officer found “several items of drug paraphernalia” in the car, police said.

The driver was taken into custody, but he began to resist and assault officers while in the back seat of a patrol car, police said. As officers went to investigate the suspect’s car, the man made his way to the front of the patrol vehicle through a small window between the front seats and took off in it.

The man traveled west in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 80 towards Mesquite, police said, and the patrol car was later found damaged by Sunnyvale police. Police believe the man had crashed the car into guardrails.

Authorities from various areas established a perimeter to find the man, until a person called Mesquite police to report a man in handcuffs sitting inside an Applebee’s west of where the patrol car had been found.

Mesquite police arrested Paramo at the restaurant. He was treated for minor injuries that police believe he sustained when he crashed the patrol car, and then he was transported to the Forney City Jail.

Paramo faces charges including assault of a public servant, theft and evading and resisting arrest.
