4-year-old killed in suspected DWI crash, deputy says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A 4-year-old girl died after her mother crashed early Sunday morning on the East Beltway, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Deputies responded to the incident at about 4:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of E. Sam Houston Parkway North. They said a total of five children were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Gonzalez said CPR was performed on the 4-year-old at the scene. The other four children were not injured but were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The 4-year-old was unsecured in the back seat and sitting in the lap of another child, deputies said.

The driver is the mother of four of the five children, according to authorities. She told deputies she was on her way to drop off the child who’s not hers.

Gonzalez said she was showing signs of intoxication. He also said when deputies arrived to the scene, they noticed she may have struck a road sign.

The mother was charged with felony murder.
