Cloudy and windy ahead of storms late tonight

A very windy day is in store across North Texas. Officially, a Wind Advisory will go into effect at 1 p.m. today and last until 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. Gust over 40 mph (from the south) will be common. Otherwise, it will be a cloudy and warm day.

This wind is in response to a developing storm system out west. This system will bring a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms to North Texas late tonight. The timing for DFW looks to be between 1-5 a.m. Wednesday morning. It will likely be a brief line of storms, but they could pack quite a punch. In fact, damaging winds of 60- 70 mph are possible. It’s possible there could be a brief tornado as well and perhaps even some hail. But again, the main concern will be for damaging straight-line wind gusts.

The rain will be over before sunrise Wednesday, followed by a temporary cool and sunny pattern. A slight chance of storms returns Friday night, but the weekend forecast is generally looking dry.
