4th woman sues Dallas developer Bill Hutchinson, alleging sexual assault

A fourth woman is suing Dallas developer William Lewald “Bill” Hutchinson, alleging he sexually assaulted her three times over the course of several years.

The woman’s allegations were added to a lawsuit initially filed in July by a McLennan County woman who claims that Hutchinson, 63, sexually assaulted her while she was in college in an incident she partially recorded on her cellphone.

The amended lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Dallas County, also includes a woman who alleges Hutchinson sexually assaulted her twice and gave her an incurable sexually transmitted disease.

Hutchinson, Dunhill Apartments, real-estate firm Dunhill Partners and Virgin Hotels Dallas are named as defendants. The women each seek more than $1 million in damages.

Levi McCathern, an attorney for Hutchinson, said the allegations are “a false and malicious shakedown attempt for money,” and that the woman had a consensual relationship with Hutchinson.

“These false allegations do nothing but harm legitimate victims of sexual assault, and we look forward to not only clearing Mr. Hutchinson’s name in court, but also pursuing all available legal remedies to address these bad actors,” McCathern said. “It’s sad that the truth is so easily ignored and money is seemingly the only thing that matters to women like this.”

Representatives for the other defendants did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Ana Lanzas, a Virgin Hotels spokeswoman, previously said Hutchinson is no longer involved in “any active capacity” with Virgin Hotels Dallas.

Newest accusations

The newest accuser, a Dallas County woman identified in the lawsuit as Jane Doe 4, met Hutchinson at his Highland Park home during a political event she was working at. The woman, who was in her late 20s at the time, viewed Hutchinson as a mentor because he had mentored her supervisor, the lawsuit says.

In spring 2019, the woman told Hutchinson she was looking for a place to live, and he said he could get her an apartment at a complex he owned without her having to go through the typical application process, according to the lawsuit.

Hutchinson took her to a nearby restaurant, where he ordered her alcoholic drinks, and then showed her a unit at Dunhill Apartments. At one point, the woman was looking around the apartment and when she turned around Hutchinson was completely undressed, according to the lawsuit.

The woman had made it clear that she did not want a physical relationship with Hutchinson, but he “constantly brought it up and had tried to pressure her before,” the woman’s attorneys wrote in the lawsuit.

Hutchinson then forced the woman onto the bed and sexually assaulted her, according to the lawsuit. Afterward, she got dressed and left, and tried to put the assault out of her mind.

“Jane Doe 4 was going through a rough point in her life and was particularly vulnerable — a fact Hutchinson knew and exploited,” the lawsuit says.

Some time after, the woman went to dinner at Virgin Hotels Dallas with Hutchinson, who had set up the dinner as an opportunity for a job, the lawsuit says.

The woman remembers everyone drinking cocktails and ordering food. The next thing she remembers is waking up in a hotel room, half-dressed, with Hutchinson and “her body feeling like sexual activity had occurred,” the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit notes that the woman briefly had a job at the hotel in summer 2020 and heard other employees talking about how Hutchinson and his partner frequently used hotel rooms and spent time with younger women.

In April 2021, the woman got dinner with her friends in the Knox-Henderson area when Hutchinson showed up. She remembers everyone sitting at the table drinking wine and looking at the menu and then, after a gap in her memory, being at Hutchinson’s office with Hutchinson trying to touch her in a sexual manner, according to the lawsuit.

“Jane Doe 4 started crying hysterically and desperately wanted to get away,” the lawsuit says, adding that the woman ran into a glass door, injuring herself, in her attempt to flee.

The woman stopped communicating with Hutchinson, but he continued to reach out to her, according to the lawsuit.

Criminal allegations

Sexual assault allegations against Hutchinson arose last July, when the developer was arrested in Highland Park after being accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at his home. He was released on $30,000 bond.

The family of the girl sued Hutchinson shortly after his arrest.

Also in July, authorities in Orange County, Calif., filed one felony count of rape and five misdemeanor counts of sexual battery against Hutchinson after allegations involving the same girl and another teenager. He was freed on $100,000 bond and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Hutchinson appeared on both seasons of the Lifetime reality-TV series Marrying Millions, which follows couples in which one partner is wealthy and the other is not. His relationship with a woman 40 years his junior was featured on the show.

Hutchinson stepped down as president of Dunhill Partners shortly before the criminal charges were filed, saying it was a move he had been considering for several years.
