Crews battling Tarrant County grass fire that spread to nearly 10 structures

Crews were battling a grass fire in southeastern Tarrant County on Tuesday evening that spread to nearly 10 structures.

The Rendon Fire Department said on Twitter around 6:40 p.m. that it was responding to a fire at a one-story home in the 5500 block of Jessica Lane. Twenty minutes later, the department said the blaze began as a grass fire.

By 7:35 p.m., eight to nine structures were burning, live power lines were down and propane tanks were on fire, the department said in a series of tweets.

Authorities from Tarrant County, Fort Worth and Burleson all were responding to the blaze.

The fire came a day after 26 homes were burned in Balch Springs after a lawn mower caught fire in a field. As of Tuesday morning, nine of the homes were a total loss and authorities estimated more than $6 million in property damage.
