Following a hearing, the court has instructed an alleged unlicensed funeral director to refrain from contacting clients

In Houston, Texas, a judge has issued an order prohibiting a 26-year-old man, accused of operating a fraudulent funeral business that involved misappropriating life insurance payments from deceased individuals, from contacting the clients he purportedly defrauded.

Javian Major attended a preliminary court hearing following his recent arrest by the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, which garnered attention after his detainment was publicized on social media. Major, alongside 38-year-old Sandy Broussard, faces forgery charges following an extensive eight-month investigation conducted by Precinct 1 and the Texas Rangers.

Authorities allege that Major and Broussard operated the funeral business without proper licensing, with Major posing as a funeral director to persuade clients to transfer money and life insurance policy details to him. Investigators claim that thousands of dollars were unlawfully obtained through forged signatures of beneficiaries.

One victim reported that Major had depleted her family’s insurance and sought additional compensation from other victims of the scheme. Additionally, another victim asserted that Major mishandled her son’s body inside a casket, while others lamented the disappearance of their loved ones’ remains.

Law enforcement officials disclosed that approximately 50 individuals have contacted them regarding potential additional suspects involved in the fraudulent operation.

Major’s arraignment has been scheduled for February 12, and he was released on a $10,000 bond. Meanwhile, Broussard, who posted a $5,000 bond, is slated for her next court appearance on February 9.
