Data reveals that Houston experienced a 135% surge in road rage shooting incidents from 2016 to 2023

Houston is stepping up law enforcement efforts to ensure road safety amid rising concerns over road rage incidents.

Leaders from various law enforcement agencies convened on Tuesday to discuss the “Safe Roadways Initiative,” initiated in 2021 following a road rage shooting incident outside an Astros game, and to outline plans for its enhancement.

Exclusive data obtained by highlights the concerning trend of road rage shootings over recent years.

Between 2016 and 2023, reported incidents surged by 135%. In 2016, there were approximately 153 incidents, while 2023 witnessed a staggering 359 reported incidents.

The years during the pandemic recorded unprecedented numbers, with 468 incidents reported in 2021 and 404 in 2020. These figures represent the highest reported incidents for each respective year.

It’s important to note that the data does not include incidents that were not reported to the police.
