A teenager has died following a shooting in South Dallas close to Lincoln High School

Dallas Police reported that a teenage boy was fatally shot in the 2500 block of Southland Street, approximately half a mile from Lincoln High School.

According to authorities, they received the call around 10:45 a.m. and discovered a male teen with gunshot wounds at the scene. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

CC, who was visiting her mother nearby, witnessed the incident from a window. She observed approximately 15 young individuals fleeing from a house through the back door.

“At first, I thought they were playing because it looked fake, like a movie,” she recalled. However, when she heard gunshots, she realized the gravity of the situation.

CC wanted to assist the victim but refrained from intervening to avoid potential harm.

“I couldn’t do nothing but just watch and call the police,” she said. “I couldn’t even record. I usually film everything and couldn’t even record it because I could’ve had everything on film. I was just so much in shock because I couldn’t believe it. Like, I ain’t never seen nothing in my 40 years like this.”

She recognized some of the individuals as children who sometimes wait at the school bus stop.

The Dallas Independent School District has not yet confirmed whether the victim was a student.

CC expressed concern for her family’s safety, emphasizing the indiscriminate nature of the violence.

Kenneth Sanders, a recent resident in the neighborhood, echoed CC’s sentiments and expressed condolences to the victim’s family.

Dallas Police have not disclosed the victim’s identity or identified any suspects, indicating that the investigation is ongoing.
