Investigation underway after man shot near American Airlines Center

Dallas Police are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred in a bustling area of downtown Dallas.

According to investigators, officers responded to reports of a shooting around noon at the intersection of North Houston Street and Nowitzki Way, where they discovered a man who had sustained gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival at the scene, NBC 5 observed police tape cordoning off the entrance to the 7-Eleven convenience store situated at the corner.

The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital by Dallas Fire Rescue, with injuries deemed to be non-life-threatening, as per police reports.

As of now, authorities have not disclosed whether they have a suspect in custody.

Shawn Collins, a nearby resident and worker, expressed his surprise and shock regarding the incident, particularly considering the location.

J.J. O’Connor, a neighbor residing next to the crime scene, shared Collins’ sentiments, acknowledging the area’s generally secure environment.

Despite the presence of individuals experiencing homelessness often congregating in front of the 7-Eleven, O’Connor stated that he has never felt threatened.

Nonetheless, he admitted that the occurrence might alter his routine to some extent, with a heightened sense of caution.

Similarly, Collins mentioned that while the incident wouldn’t deter him from visiting one of the city’s liveliest entertainment districts, he would exercise increased vigilance during his visits.

Both individuals emphasized the importance of remaining alert in light of the recent event.
