NTSB unveils reports for fatal 2022 Wings over Dallas Airshow crash amid investigation

The 2022 Wings of Over Dallas Airshow tragedy, marked by a fatal mid-air collision claiming six lives, is gradually unfolding as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released an extensive 2,000-page document shedding light on its ongoing investigation.

The airshow’s grim conclusion involved two World War II-era aircraft colliding while spectators watched from below, prompting an immediate investigation by the NTSB.

Arturo Gonzalez, a seasoned Texas attorney specializing in aviation crashes, emphasized the necessity of transparency from the NTSB in addressing critical questions and ensuring public safety at such events.

The released NTSB documents, organized into sections like operational factors and human performance, offer insights into the circumstances leading up to the collision. However, the NTSB clarifies that it does not yet provide a probable cause or final report.

Among the findings are images captured moments before the crash, a damaged GPS device, and evidence indicating the last inspection of both airplanes in March of the same year. Additionally, participant logs confirm receipt of pre-show safety briefings.

The documents also include transcripts of recordings, interviews, and other investigative materials, paving the way for a thorough analysis of the incident.

While the final NTSB report may take six months to a year, it remains uncertain whether it will instigate significant changes in airshow protocols. Gonzalez suggests that such adjustments typically occur incrementally rather than through immediate overhaul.

Despite last year’s cancellation of the airshow by the Commemorative Air Force in favor of an aviation festival, organizers intend to revive the airshow this year.

The NTSB Public Docket containing detailed information is accessible on the NTSB’s official website.
