Suspected burglar killed in a shootout with Frisco Police identified

The man who was killed in a shootout with Frisco Police on Saturday has been identified as 42-year-old Donavan Ray Favors, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Favors succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at a residence on the 5100 block of Lorraine Drive in Frisco, as determined by the medical examiner’s office.

Initial reports from Frisco Police indicated that officers responded to a burglary call on that block, and during the investigation, an individual began firing shots at them. The officers returned fire, resulting in the death of the individual.

On Monday, Frisco Police issued a revised statement, clarifying that “the suspect opened fire on the officers and officers returned fire.” They further confirmed the suspect’s demise and awaited confirmation of his identity from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The identity of the deceased individual was later confirmed as Donavan Ray Favors by both the medical examiner’s office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A witness, A.J. Steele, recounted to NBC 5 that he and his girlfriend were moving into their new apartment on Saturday when they encountered a man attempting to exit their garage. Steele’s rented moving van obstructed the man’s path, prompting him to flee on foot. Upon inspection, the couple discovered that the man’s car was loaded with their belongings.

Steele promptly dialed 911, leading to the arrival of Frisco Police shortly thereafter. Police later disclosed that they encountered an armed individual at the scene, resulting in an officer discharging their weapon.

Frisco Police have refrained from releasing additional details, stating that the ongoing investigation has been handed over to the Texas Rangers.

There were no reported injuries among the officers involved in the incident, and no other casualties were reported.
