New US Farmed seal: Your guide to grown produce, sustainable farming in Texas

American Farmland Trust, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving American farms, has revealed that Texas is projected to lose over 2 million acres of farm and ranch land to new development by 2040, surpassing any other state in terms of land loss.

In response to this concerning trend, American Farmland Trust announced a significant initiative aimed at safeguarding local food sources and potentially influencing consumer purchasing decisions.

The organization introduced the “U.S Farmed” certification program, which entails a certification and seal indicating that a brand sources a minimum of 95 percent of its agricultural ingredients from American farms. Anheuser-Busch was unveiled as the inaugural recipient of this seal.

Beth Sauerhaft, PhD, Acting President and CEO of AFT, emphasized the dual significance of this certification. Not only does it demonstrate a brand’s commitment to supporting American farmers and ensuring their long-term viability, but it also addresses consumer preferences regarding product sourcing.

The proceeds from certification fees will assist farmers in implementing measures to protect their land, thereby contributing to the accessibility and affordability of food. AFT and Anheuser-Busch are optimistic that more companies, regardless of size, will embrace this initiative.
