Memorial held for Fort Worth students killed in separate crashes during Spring Break

The Fort Worth charter school community is mourning the loss of two students who tragically passed away in separate accidents during Spring Break last week.

Leaders at Harmony School of Innovation Fort Worth revealed that eighth-grader Kaitlynn Nguyen lost her life in a skiing accident in New Mexico, while tenth-grader Layla Pazarac died in an ATV crash in Hill County, all within the same week.

In a deeply emotional memorial service held at the school on Wednesday night, relatives, students, and faculty gathered to bid farewell to the two young victims whose lives were cut short unexpectedly.

Principal Jaci Chasteen expressed the profound shock and grief that has engulfed the school community in the wake of these tragic events.

“Losing two students in one week, both accidents completely unrelated, is not something any of us could have predicted or prepared for,” Chasteen remarked. “The last ten days have shaken our entire school community to its core.”

The memorial service featured heartfelt tributes and slideshows honoring the memories of Kaitlynn and Layla.

Students and faculty spoke fondly of Kaitlynn, describing her as a bright and enthusiastic learner with aspirations of attending Yale University and pursuing a career in law.

Layla, remembered as a dedicated cross-country athlete and a prominent figure in the school’s DECA business club, was praised for her positive influence and leadership qualities.

The families of the two girls were presented with boxes overflowing with cards written by students since the tragic accidents occurred.

“To Layla and Kaitlynn’s families, every person here wearing pink and purple is here to help you. The school did this so that we could all come together and remember their lives,” a student who knew both victims expressed. “And you’re never alone; we’ll always be here to help you.”

Despite the profound sorrow that permeated the gathering, attendees were encouraged to honor the memories of the victims by pursuing the goals and aspirations they held dear.

“May we all live our lives as beautifully as Layla and Kaitlynn did,” Chasteen concluded, offering solace and inspiration to those in mourning.
