Deadly single-vehicle crash in NW Harris County claims 2 lives, HSCO says

In Northwest Harris County on Sunday evening, a tragic crash claimed the lives of two young individuals, while two others were airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. along Wright Road, near Spencer Road. The vehicle involved in the crash was carrying four young people, all estimated to be between the ages of 15 to 20 years old.

Sheriff Gonzalez noted that only one occupant, the front passenger, was wearing a seat belt, which likely contributed to his comparatively better condition. He was airlifted to the hospital along with the driver, who was reported to be in critical condition as of 9 p.m. Sunday.

Tragically, both a male and female in the backseat lost their lives, with the male being ejected from the vehicle upon impact.

Speed was identified as a significant factor in the crash, as the vehicle was traveling south at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control, resulting in collisions with poles, a curb, and two fences before coming to a halt.

Sheriff Gonzalez also mentioned the discovery of a bag of marijuana at the scene, prompting investigators to explore the possibility of drugs and/or alcohol involvement in the crash.

“This could have been prevented,” Sheriff Gonzalez emphasized, hinting at potential charges for the driver if they survive the ordeal.
