Questions arise over responsibility in death of 8-year-old girl found in pool pipe at Houston hotel

An investigation is currently underway following the tragic drowning of an eight-year-old girl at a hotel in Northwest Houston.

The child was reported missing around 6 p.m. on Saturday, prompting a response from Houston Police, Houston Fire, and EquuSearch to locate her.

According to Tim Miller, founder of Texas EquuSearch, this incident is one of the saddest they’ve encountered in a while. Initially, there was uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of her disappearance as she was last seen swimming in the hotel pool.

After reviewing security footage of the pool area, it became apparent that the girl went underwater but did not resurface. To aid in the search, EquuSearch utilized cameras attached to long poles provided by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to inspect the pool’s pipes after it was drained.

Miller described a heartbreaking discovery as they found the child wedged tightly in an opening, speculating that there may have been a malfunction causing her to be pulled into the pipe.

The recovery process, which took approximately 13 hours, was emotionally challenging for the search team.

Regarding accountability, Miller expressed his belief that someone should be held responsible for the tragedy. HPD is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

While the hotel declined to comment, they informed that the pool is temporarily closed.
