2 children accused of stabbing women in her garage in custody, 12-year-old boy charged: HCSO

A 12-year-old boy has been taken into custody by the Harris County Juvenile Department and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing a 59-year-old woman on Saturday afternoon.

Surveillance footage provided to by a neighbor shows two boys conversing with the victim around 2:07 p.m. at a residence in the 17200 block of April Valley Court in northwest Harris County. Subsequently, a neighbor intervenes and instructs the boys to leave. However, approximately 10 minutes later, the footage captures the boys returning on their bikes, wearing gloves. The 12-year-old is then seen pulling something from his pants, charging at the woman inside the garage, and fleeing the scene with the 7-year-old boy.

The incident has deeply unsettled neighbors, prompting concerns about the children’s capability to carry out such an attack, particularly after being warned by a neighbor.

Following the assault, a family member discovered the victim inside her garage. Authorities revealed that her relatives regularly check on her due to her mental health challenges.

The victim was airlifted to the hospital and underwent surgery, remaining in critical condition. Her nephew informed that as of Sunday morning, she was still alive, with the family closely monitoring her condition.

The 12-year-old suspect has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Meanwhile, the 7-year-old will not face charges under Texas law, which stipulates a minimum culpability age of 10. While the parents have not been charged, Child Protective Services (CPS) has been notified.
