Mother mourns loss of her only child after high school seniors murdered in South Dallas

Reflecting on the tragic loss of her son, Kamari Smith-Capps, who was fatally shot in South Dallas just days ago, his mother shared memories of his compassionate and caring nature at Berkner Park, where they often spent time together. Devastated by the sudden and senseless loss, she described Kamari as her only child and expressed the profound grief of facing life without him.

The incident occurred around 9:20 on Friday night, as Dallas Police responded to a shooting outside a convenience store near Dixon Avenue and Scyene Road. Kamari was found shot in the driver’s seat, while his best friend, Camren Stacy, also 18 years old, was discovered shot on the ground nearby. Tragically, both teenagers succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Kamari’s mother expressed disbelief and shock at the news, struggling to comprehend the reality of her son’s untimely death. She recalled their close bond and lamented the loss of their future together, as the two friends were just months away from graduating high school. Their friendship had blossomed during their time at Berkner High School in Richardson ISD, where they bonded over classes and sports.

In a letter to parents, Berkner Principal Kristy Cage mourned the loss of Camren Stacy, acknowledging his significance within the school community. Kamari, although most recently enrolled in Plano ISD, remained deeply connected to Berkner and his friendship with Camren.

The families of Kamari and Camren are united in their pursuit of justice for the senseless act that took their loved ones’ lives. Kamari’s mother pleaded for anyone with information about the suspects to come forward and assist in bringing them to justice. Despite the suspects fleeing the scene, Dallas Police are urging anyone with relevant information to contact authorities.
