Metamorphosis Dallas Chamber Orchestra concert features guest cellist Steven Isserlis

Texas Cellos emerged during the pandemic as a means for dedicated cello students to come together and make music.

Joseph Kuipers, Creative Director of Texas Cellos, reminisced about the group’s beginnings, recalling Sunday morning gatherings when most others were idle. He described the atmosphere as akin to an underground club, where participants felt a sense of camaraderie and exclusivity in pursuing their passion when others were not.

Since its inception, Texas Cellos has evolved into the Metamorphosis Dallas Chamber Orchestra. On April 10th, they will grace the stage of the Winspear Opera House alongside esteemed guest cellist Steven Isserlis.

“Steven Isserlis is one of the all-time greats of cello and one of the greatest musicians alive,” Kuipers praised. “The first time I felt goosebumps in a concert was watching him perform with the Minnesota Orchestra when I was just 11 years old.”

Metamorphosis will perform without a conductor but with a clear objective: to enrich the cello and music community.

“We’re striving to expand the cello and music landscape in any way possible,” Kuipers explained. “Music serves as a unifying force, bringing people together and fostering connections.”

The GALA 2024 concert at the Winspear Opera House will contribute to scholarships for Texas Cellos students. With the expansion of its programming to include a summer institute, approximately 70% of the students benefit from scholarships.

“Our aim is to offer opportunities to talented, dedicated individuals in need,” Kuipers emphasized. “That’s our mission.”

Kuipers encourages all music students to attend the concert, promising a special moment to acknowledge their presence.
