Kroger employee who died in parking lot accident was a grandmother, cancer survivor

Loved ones are paying tribute to Linda Kay Brown, 62, following a tragic accident earlier this week.

According to reports, Brown had completed her shift at the Kroger store on Southeast Green Oaks Boulevard in Arlington on Wednesday and had returned to attend a coworker’s retirement celebration.

Arlington Police stated that Brown was struck by a Ford F-150 as she was walking in the parking lot, shortly after leaving the store around 3:42 p.m.

Brown’s boyfriend, Cubie Nickelbury Jr., expressed his profound grief, stating, “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I miss her so much and she means the world to me, so I’m just lost right now.”

Investigators believe the driver of the vehicle was heading towards the store’s front entrance, came to a stop near the end of the row, and then turned eastbound, striking Brown during the turn.

Despite the tragic circumstances, Brown’s daughters, including Tiffany Burns, extended their prayers to the driver and Brown’s coworkers, many of whom were present during the incident.

Reflecting on their sudden loss, Burns shared, “She had breast cancer in 2014 and survived that. So, that’s what kind of makes it even crazier to think about the situation, it’s just so surreal.”

Burns recounted her experience of supporting her mother during her cancer treatment, including shaving their heads together when chemotherapy caused Brown’s hair to fall out.

Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist the family with funeral expenses and other related costs during this difficult time.

Arlington Police confirmed that the driver of the pickup truck is not facing any criminal charges at this time. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities stated that the driver complied with all legal requirements following the accident.

In response to the tragedy, Kroger expressed condolences and offered grief counseling services to associates at the Arlington location where Brown had been employed for 11 years.
