Tents are set up in North Texas for the total eclipse experience

With just two days left until the total solar eclipse, anticipation is high as some enthusiasts set up camp for a weekend-long experience.

Gillian Cole from Dallas is among those who have pitched tents at Samuell Farm in Mesquite for the Totality Dallas event organized by the Dallas Park and Recreation Department. Equipped with essentials like a sleeping bag, silk pillowcase, and eclipse glasses, she’s ready for the celestial spectacle.

The event features a range of activities, including educational sessions, outdoor fun, food trucks, and live entertainment. Families like Jamie and Chris Fagan, who brought their three daughters from Rowlett, are excited about the diverse offerings.

To ensure safety during the eclipse, experts from the U.S. National Science Foundation are on hand to advise viewers on using proper eye protection. Noah Egge emphasized the importance of wearing eclipse glasses during the partial phases and removing them only during totality.

Although weather forecasts predict clouds, Egge remains optimistic, highlighting the unique experience of witnessing the eclipse, even amidst cloudy skies. He anticipates animals reacting to the sudden darkness, enhancing the experience for spectators.

For those unable to attend in person, the Foundation offers a livestream of the event. Despite the threat of severe weather, organizers are prepared to manage the crowds, with plans in place to address any challenges that may arise.

As campers like Gillian Cole prepare for the possibility of rain, they remain hopeful for clear skies and an unforgettable eclipse experience. With proper precautions and a spirit of adventure, they’re ready to witness this rare celestial event.
