NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 are seeking outstanding nonprofit organizations dedicated to making a positive impact in the local community. The NBCUniversal Local Impact Grant is designed to support such nonprofits with budgets under $1 million.
Lynn Hammer, Executive Director of the Foundation for the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Fort Worth, expressed gratitude for receiving the Local Impact Grant last year. The grant has facilitated valuable opportunities for students, including college visits, test preparation, and robotics team support.
Hammer emphasized the significance of NBC 5’s contribution in enabling the organization to offer these additional opportunities to deserving students.
Recently, the Foundation for the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Fort Worth hosted a fundraising luncheon to celebrate the achievements of the class of 2024, affectionately referred to as ‘diamonds’ by the YWLA community.
During the event, Class of 2024 Vice President Joely Donnell proudly announced that all 54 seniors had been accepted to four-year colleges or universities, highlighting the impact of the organization’s efforts.
Senior Maria Urdampilleta, a first-generation college student, shared how the grant-funded college visits helped her explore different college environments and make informed decisions about her future.
Similarly, senior Priscilla Sowah-Klu, coming from a low-income background, expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by the grant, which motivated her to strive for excellence and pursue higher education.
The NBCUniversal Local Impact Grant, presented by the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation in collaboration with NBC 5 and Telemundo 39, aims to empower organizations like the Foundation for the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Fort Worth.
