School bus lands on side after crash in Ellis County

Authorities in Ellis County are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a school bus that overturned, causing minor injuries.

Italy ISD confirmed that all students and staff members aboard the bus are safe and accounted for.

The incident occurred south of Waxahachie on rural highway FM55 near Avalon, approximately an hour south of Dallas.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident unfolded when a Maserati veered into oncoming traffic. In an attempt to avoid the car, the school bus driver swerved and ended up rolling into a ditch.

The bus involved is part of the Ellis County Shared Services utilized by Avalon ISD for transporting special needs students, as stated by Avalon ISD Superintendent Khristopher Marshall.

Marshall further clarified that there were three occupants on the bus at the time of the incident: the driver, a bus monitor, and one student.

Avalon ISD has confirmed that one adult and one student were transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Fortunately, neither the driver nor the passenger in the Maserati sustained any injuries in the accident.
