Gridlock Alert: Prepare for traffic this weekend with widespread closures on Houston-area freeways

Motorists in the Houston area should anticipate significant lane closures throughout the upcoming weekend.

The eastern section of Houston is set to experience the bulk of the traffic slowdowns, particularly on the East Sam Houston Tollway, where a portion will be closed over the weekend and extending into the summer months.

Here are the major closures to be aware of:

East Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway-8)
– Southbound lanes at the Ship Channel Toll Bridge
– Closure of two lanes
– From 10 p.m. on Friday, April 19, to 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 21
– The right lane will stay closed until early September, leading to additional slowdowns on the southbound side throughout the summer.

I-10 East
– Westbound lanes from Spur 330/Decker to Monmouth in Baytown
– Closure of two inside lanes
– From 9 p.m. on Friday, April 19, to 5 a.m. on Monday, April 22
– An open travel lane will be provided, but drivers should anticipate delays.

I-610 North Loop
– Westbound lanes from Hardy Toll Rd/Spur 548 to Airline
– Closure of all mainlanes
– From 9 p.m. on Friday, April 19, to 5 a.m. on Sunday, April 21
– Motorists can use the North Loop connector to I-45 North and U-turn at Crosstimbers to access I-610.

METRORail Purple Line
– Closed on Saturday and Sunday for rail improvements
– Service suspended from Palm Center to Eado/Stadium station
– Free shuttles will be available, but travelers should allocate extra time for their journey.
