Is mail being stolen inside a major Houston USPS facility?

Chappell Hill resident Kim Grayden’s encounter with mail theft took her by surprise, especially after witnessing a 13 Investigates report on similar incidents. Despite sending a certified check to the IRS in January, Grayden discovered her bank account reflected an unauthorized $9,000 payment in February.

Upon reviewing the check image, Grayden noticed alterations to the amount and her signature, indicating tampering. Despite her swift action, including contacting her bank and the U.S. Postal Inspector General, her mailed check remains undelivered, according to USPS tracking.

Grayden’s frustration is compounded by her loss of faith in USPS, suspecting an internal issue at the North Houston Distribution Center, where her mail was processed. This suspicion aligns with previous reports of mail theft allegations at the same facility.

Despite her efforts, Grayden feels accountability is lacking, expressing dismay at the lack of communication from USPS until prompted by media inquiries. Consequently, she now plans to avoid USPS for important correspondence, preferring electronic means to ensure delivery reliability.

Grayden’s experience underscores broader concerns about mail security and accountability within USPS, raising questions about the effectiveness of current investigative processes.
