Plane crash kills 1 near Dallas-Kaufman county border

A person died in a plane crash Sunday afternoon in Kaufman County, authorities say.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. in an open field near Lawson Road and East Highway 80 in Sunnyvale, said Sgt. Kyle Bradford, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The person who died was the plane’s only occupant, Bradford said. The victim’s name was not released.

The plane was a home-built replica of an old fighter plane, he said. No details about what led to the crash were released.
