Richardson neighborhood recognizes beloved mailman, a ‘highlight of everyone’s day’

Richardson residents celebrated a special mailman, Ronald Terry, who has done much more than deliver mail in a neighborhood near Mimosa Drive.

“Ronald is more than a mailman,” resident resident Elizabeth Pigg told KXAS-TV (NBC5) news. “Ronald is like a part of our community and a friend and family.”

Terry honks the mail truck horn when he arrives, gives the neighborhood kids a peace sign and imparts a positive and encouraging attitude every day, according to the report.

The neighborhood honored Terry, who hails from New Orleans, with a Mardi Gras-themed party complete with cards, beads, balloons, party horns and a cake. Kids lined the street and cheered him on as Terry arrived. After a brief visit, he continued his route.

Terry regularly goes beyond his job description, neighbors told the TV station.

Terry has chased down dogs that got loose and lead home a toddler who escaped from the front door of a home, for example.

“It was kind of the highlight of everyone’s day to just see Ronald’s big smile,” Kayley Wille told the TV station. “He never skipped a beat. He was always energetic and enthusiastic and always flashing us his peace sign.”
