Dallas County reports 1,044 new coronavirus cases, 2 deaths

Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 1,044 new coronavirus cases and two deaths Sunday.

The latest fatalities were an Irving man in his 50s who had no underlying health problems and a Grand Prairie man in his 70s with underlying health conditions.

Both had been hospitalized in critical condition, the county said.

The new numbers bring the county’s case counts to 41,266 cases — or about 15.7 for every 1,000 residents — and 525 deaths.

On Sunday the state reported 7,300 cases, a dip after nearly a week of 10,000-plus statewide cases.

Since June 1, a rising number of positive COVID-19 cases have been people between the ages of 18 to 39, the county said. The cases are being associated with large social and recreational gatherings that have taken place since early June.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced Sunday that the Texas Division of Emergency Management will open a COVID-19 testing center Monday at Mountain View College. The location will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. From Tuesday through Saturday, hours will shift to 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 422 new coronavirus cases and five deaths Sunday.

The latest deaths were of a White Settlement man in his 70s, two men in their 60s from Fort Worth, a man in his 70s from Benbrook and a Pantego woman in her 90s. All had underlying health problems, the county said.

The new numbers bring the county’s totals to 21,617, or 10.3 cases for every 1,000 residents, and 298 deaths.

There have been 10,382 recoveries, the county reported.

Collin County

Collin County reported 83 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 5,374 confirmed cases.

There are 916 active cases and 4,394 people have recovered. The number of deaths remained at 64.

Denton County

Denton County Public Health reported 81 positive coronavirus cases Sunday. The county’s total is 4,968 cases, or 5.6 out of every 1,000 residents.

The county also reported 49 recoveries. The number of deaths remained at 42.

Other counties

Case reporting for several North Texas counties has been taken over by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The latest numbers are:

Rockwall County: 566 cases, 17 deaths.

Kaufman County: 1,222 cases, five deaths.

Ellis County: 1,972 cases, 21 deaths.

Johnson County: 973 cases, seven deaths.
