2 arrested on murder charges as police continue to investigate fatal Denton shooting

Two men have been arrested on murder charges in connection with a fatal October shooting in Denton, and authorities are continuing to investigate.

Jordan Carlos Bernal, 18, of Little Elm was taken into custody Oct. 28 and Juan Carlos Perales, 21, of Denton was arrested Oct. 29, Denton police announced Monday.

Police were called the night of Oct. 24 to the 100 block of Duchess Drive, near East McKinney Street, where a shooting had been reported.

Officers found a man who had been shot in the leg, and they learned a second man who had been shot in the abdomen had been taken to a hospital. The second man, whose identity has not been released, later died.

In addition to the murder charges, Bernal and Perales have been charged with aggravated robbery. Bernal also faces a charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Both men remained in custody at the Denton County jail Monday, with bail set at $550,000 for Bernal and $750,000 for Perales. It was unclear whether either man had an attorney.

Police said in a statement that they “have identified multiple individuals who were involved in the incident” and that the investigation is ongoing.
