Man in custody after fatal overnight shooting near Cedar Ridge Preserve, Dallas police say

A suspect was in custody after a man was fatally shot early Tuesday in a neighborhood east of Cedar Ridge Preserve in far southwest Dallas.

About 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a call in the 7300 block of Pineberry Road, in The Woods area of Dallas near Mountain Creek Parkway. When officers arrived, they found a man with several gunshot wounds, police said.

Dallas-Fire Rescue took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police identified him as 21-year-old Zavionte Dixon.

Police said Tuesday evening that John Nolasco, 32, had been arrested on a murder charge in connection with the shooting but did not say how their investigation led to him.

Nolasco was booked into the Dallas County jail. His bail had not been set, and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
