Water and food distribution sites open across the Houston area

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — As the Houston area continues to deal with the winter storm recovery, multiple groups have organized free water or food distribution events throughout the city.

The list below will be updated with new information as we get it.

One of sites includes a large distribution event Saturday at a northeast Houston church, where hundreds of people were in line for free water.

Sunday, Feb. 21

Houston

HISD/Houston Food Bank food distribution – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – NRG Stadium
Butler Stadium – water distribution – 2 p.m. 13755 S. Main St.

Molina Healthcare of Texas
Molina Healthcare of Texas is funding 200 hot meals from Viet Alley Restaurant to Houstonians in need this Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m at 1210 Bellaire Blvd #133.

Burns BBQ
The Burns’ family said they will be giving away free meals in conjunction with BossLife, World Central Kitchen and Certified 1501 ENT. on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021. They said Burns will be providing meals for at least 2,000 people. The giveaway will be held at Burns Original Bar-B-Que on 8307 De Priest Street.

Harris County

Precinct Two food giveaway
Sunday’s food distribution will be held at 10 a.m. at Leonel Castillo Community Center – 2101 South St., Houston, TX 77009
“People are asked to stay in their vehicles during the distribution, and Precinct 2 Staff/Volunteers will place food in recipients’ trunks,” according to Precinct Two officials.

Precinct Three
Limited supply of drinking water will be passed out at 12 p.m. at the following locations:
Bayland Park (6400 Bissonnet Street)

Archbishop Fiorenza Park (4025 Eldridge Pkwy)
Bear Creek Pioneers Park (3535 War Memorial Drive)
Arthur Story Park (7400 W Sam Houston Pkwy S)
Weekly Park (8440 Greenhouse Road, Cypress)

“Residents may also bring their own containers for non-potable water at the same locations,” according to officials.

Alief ISD

ALIEF CRUMP STADIUM
Food will be distributed at the stadium from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Fort Bend

Richmond
County Judge KP George said Mama Le Vietnamese Cuisine in Richmond will be giving out 140 free meals to families in need from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm, or until all meals have been distributed. The restaurant is located at 5400 Pointe West Cir.

Missouri City
Free water jug fill up starts at 12 p.m. – 4713 Highway 6 in Missouri City.

The Houston Food Bank is offering home delivery to the most vulnerable needing immediate assistance. Households will receive a home delivered disaster box and water if they are:

  • Seniors 65+
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Infants

Their call center is taking reservations through Monday Feb. 22 at 832-369-9390.

“We are hurting right now in Houston, Texas!” BW Williams from the Lake Houston area was one of several dozen who waited in line ahead of one of Saturday’s free water distribution events across the city.

If you are disabled or do not have reliable transportation to get to the water sites, you can sign up to have it delivered through CrowdSource Rescue.

Monday, Feb. 22
Houston

 

    • HISD/Houston Food Bank food distribution – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center – 4400 W. 18th St.

As a result of the water issues, Houston is expected to remain under a boil water notice through Monday, Feb. 22. But many other cities’ residents are suffering, lacking water to even boil.
