Texas adds 1,307 coronavirus cases, 25 deaths; Tarrant County reports 153 cases, 2 deaths

Across the state, 1,307 more COVID-19 cases were reported Sunday, including 1,264 new ones and 43 older ones that were recently added by labs.

The state also reported 25 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 49,303.

The state’s case total is now 2,888,020, including 2,473,679 confirmed and 414,341 probable.

There are 2,594 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 449 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Saturday, 2.9% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 4.7% as of Saturday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 2.9%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.

According to the state, 11,130,863 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 8,000,995 — 35.7% of the state’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported two deaths and 153 cases Sunday.

The victims were two men in their 70s. One was from Arlington and the other lived in Bedford, and both had underlying high-risk health conditions.

Of the new cases, 109 were confirmed and 44 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 257,115, including 215,979 confirmed and 41,136 probable. The death toll is 3,423.

According to the county, 133 people were hospitalized with the virus Friday.

According to the state, 757,288 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 566,296 — 35% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Dallas County

Dallas County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays. Figures that previously would have been reported Sunday will be released Monday.

As of Saturday, the county’s overall case total was 298,956 — 257,524 confirmed and 41,432 probable. The death toll was 3,900.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 244. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 242.

According to the state’s data, 1,004,144 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 710,475 — 35% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully immunized.

Collin County

The state reported no deaths and added 145 cases to Collin County’s totals Sunday.

Of the new cases, 60 were confirmed and 85 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 90,064, including 74,128 confirmed and 15,936 probable. The death toll is 820.

According to the county, 61 people were hospitalized with the virus on Friday.

According to the state, 472,290 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 344,706 — 43% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays.

As of Friday, the county had reported 74,340 coronavirus cases — 54,769 confirmed and 19,571 probable. The death toll was 488.

According to the state, 373,213 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 283,795 — 40.7% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 11,446 cases (9,244 confirmed and 2,202 probable), 153 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 15,930 cases (13,302 confirmed and 2,628 probable), 256 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 22,677 cases (18,834 confirmed and 3,843 probable), 310 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 19,714 cases (16,733 confirmed and 2,981 probable), 366 deaths.
