20-year-old shot to death during car sale in NE Harris County, deputies say

HUMBLE, Texas (KTRK) — A 20-year-old man was reportedly shot to death during a car sale gone bad in northeast Harris County, according to authorities.

Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department said Kelvin Shepard and his friend showed up to a home located in the 15100 block of Winter Dawn Way to buy a car on Sunday afternoon.

At some point during the sale, authorities said the two suspects who were supposed to be selling the car to the young men hopped into Shepard’s backseat.

While they were all inside the car, Shepard ended up being shot to death in a possible robbery attempt, investigators said.

Shepard, and his friend who went to the house with him, were able to get out the car before the suspects took off in it.

Deputies said the car is a forest Green-colored 2006 Chevrolet Malibu with several dents on the front right-side and a broken headlight.

“We believe its somewhere out there, and we’re attempting to get positive IDs on those two individuals driving it,” an official from the HSCO said.

Investigators also said they believe the two suspects who got away live in that Humble neighborhood where the shooting took place.

“I had just text him,” Shepard’s girlfriend, Sky Harris said.
