Driver killed, another critically injured after major accident and fire in North Richland Hills

A driver was killed and another driver was critically injured in a crash Wednesday that engulfed a truck in flames and closed Interstate 820 in Tarrant County.

The accident happened in the 6300 block of I-820 westbound at Meadow Lakes, in North Richland Hills, when a fuel tanker and a waste truck crashed around 7 a.m., police said.

The driver of one of the vehicles was found dead in the wreckage after first responders extinguished the flames. The second driver remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday morning, North Richland Hills police said.

Police did not say which driver was in which vehicle.

All westbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for about two hours Wednesday morning, North Richland Hills police said. It has since reopened.

Police did not say what caused the crash, and no additional information was immediately available.
