Arlington ambulances arrive in Florida for Hurricane Ian relief effort

The Arlington convoy of 10 ambulances from American Medical Response, arrived early Saturday to begin providing assistance in hurricane-ravaged Florida, officials said.

“Our Arlington teams have arrived safely in Florida,” company spokesperson Nicole Michel said Saturday morning. “Upon their arrival, they were assigned to different task forces to complete response missions in different parts of the state.”

The caravan was sent in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, which made landfall Wednesday afternoon as a Category 4 storm. In addition, Dallas-based Texas Baptist Men was sending a disaster relief unit, which includes a command center, telectrical support and an asset protection unit to Florida to help.

“If you ask most of our volunteers, they would say this is really why they got into emergency medical services to truly make a difference and impact their neighbors wherever they are in their time of need,” Peter Como, with American Medical Response in Arlington, said in a KDFW-TV report.

The report also said that about 50 to 70 volunteers with the Texas Baptist Men will have a mobile kitchen, that can serve 9,000 people daily, as well as chainsaw teams for debris removal and a recovery unit for cleaning out damaged homes.
