‘They took my guy’: North Shore HS football player’s peers release balloons after his shooting death

Family and friends came together on Wednesday to honor the memory of Jarvon Coles, the North Shore High School football player who tragically lost his life over the weekend.

Jarvon, 18, was fatally shot during a house party in Humble on Saturday morning. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, gunfire erupted from across the street into the backyard of the home where the party was taking place. While others at the party dropped to the ground in response to the gunfire, Jarvon did not survive the shooting.

The medical examiner determined that Jarvon succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Expressing his grief, Braxton Coles, Jarvon’s grandfather, lamented the loss of his grandson and emphasized Jarvon’s limitless potential. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the identity of the suspect remains unknown.

Described as a standout both on and off the football field, Jarvon had plans to attend Lamar University on a football scholarship, having graduated from North Shore High School with a remarkable 4.1 GPA.

“He was inspirational,” remarked Kharson Norfleet, one of Jarvon’s teammates. “If you’re not getting right, he’s going to get you right. He’s going to coach you up (and) make sure you do good in life.”

To pay tribute to Jarvon, hundreds of individuals gathered for a balloon release ceremony at Galena Park’s football stadium. Additionally, a celebration of Jarvon’s life is scheduled for Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at the Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church, where attendees are encouraged to wear black, white, or red.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477) to provide anonymous tips.
