Astros manager on team’s 4-10 record to start season: ‘Things will turn around’

Houston’s beleaguered Astros pitching staff is receiving much-needed assistance, with Justin Verlander poised to make a second rehab start on Saturday for Double-A Corpus Christi. If Verlander successfully completes about 75 pitches, he is expected to rejoin the Astros staff late next week.

Additionally, Manager Joe Espada provided an update on Framber Valdez, stating that he is “doing well” and is set to begin playing catch in the next day or two. Valdez was seen with a smile on his face in the outfield at Minute Maid Park, where he effortlessly tossed a baseball to a teammate, signaling positive progress after being placed on the injured list due to elbow soreness.

Despite the Astros’ challenging start to the season, with their worst performance since 2013, Espada remains optimistic and upbeat. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining positivity and resilience within a roster that boasts veteran talent.

In response to the team’s struggles, Espada has engaged with individual players to offer support and encouragement. While acknowledging the need for adjustments, he reaffirms his confidence in the team’s capabilities.

“We have a really good team. We have a ton of really good players,” Espada affirmed, highlighting the Astros’ potential to overcome adversity and bounce back from their early-season setbacks.
