Great aunt says both parents need to be held accountable in twins’ deaths: ‘Does break my heart’

In southeast Houston on Linden Creek Lane, a family seeks justice for the tragic loss of twin girls discovered deceased six months ago. Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both 21, the parents of 6-week-old daughters, Massail and Mirena, were arrested over the weekend and charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury related to the infants’ deaths.

Calderon’s sister expressed disbelief at the accusations, asserting her sister’s dedication to motherhood and claiming that Calderon was at work when the tragic incident occurred. However, relatives revealed Vega’s alleged history of abuse towards Calderon, citing a recent arrest for unlawfully restraining her.

Despite Angelina Calderon’s aunt, Sarah Calderon, doubting her niece’s physical involvement in harming the children, she believes accountability is necessary for the neglect uncovered during the investigation. The couple, according to investigators, played a role in their daughters’ deaths, which were attributed to blunt force trauma, severe malnourishment, and a history of injuries.

During a probable cause court appearance, tensions escalated as Angelina Calderon defended herself against Vega’s accusations, maintaining her innocence and asserting that the babies perished while she was away at work. Sarah Calderon expressed frustration over the situation, demanding answers regarding the infants’ neglect and mistreatment.

Sarah Calderon emphasized her desire for justice for her nieces, emphasizing their love and the heartbreaking ordeal they endured. Until justice is served, she believes their spirits will not find peace, leaving her haunted by thoughts of the twins’ suffering.
